Meteorites Part III

Meteorites PART III
The minerals of meteorites.
As mentioned earlier there is iron and nickel in many meteorites.  The iron and nickel comes in the form of the minerals kamacite (nickel rich iron), taenite (nickel-iron), olivinite (peridot),  plagioclase, diamond, silicon carbide, corundum, silicon nitrate, and graphite.

Some contain carbonate materials but it is thought they formed in the meteorite during impact.

One important meteorite named ALH 84001 was thought to have micro-fossils of bacterium in and on it viewable only by a scanning electron microprobe.  It turns out they were part of earth and not the meteorite.
