K is for Kaolinite

Kaolinite is a clay mineral with some great properties.  It absorbs water.  This makes it a great filler in things like toothpaste, ice cream, and milk shakes.  It doesn't have to be listed as an ingredient because it is not a food.
One way of testing for kaolinite in the field is to place a fresh piece to your tongue.  If it is kaolinite, it will stick to your tongue as it absorbs the moisture.  Pieces that weigh over a pound can actually be hung from your tongue, if you dare.  It is also used in making ceramics, medicine, coated papers, cosmetics, light bulbs and medical bandages.
